Defending the “Degenerate Democracy”…Again.

The concept of a democracy is not an especially difficult one to understand. The people of a nation-state – generally meaning those of a predetermined age of maturity – cast individual votes to establish legislation and select leaders. The concept of a republic is almost as easy to comprehend for those with only a schoolchild’s level of knowledge. In this last respect, the people of the nation-state simply cast votes to elect representatives that will serve on their behalf in establishing legislation, national policy, and, most importantly, defending the homeland. Here in America, this action is further spread out into the Electoral College where duly appointed electors cast the ultimate vote for President of the United States – the only position of power that represents the collective vote of the general public.

Semantics aside, the concept of democracy within America generally means that “We the People” call the shots. It is, after all, our nation. During the relatively short history of our unique – and somewhat aged, as political history goes – republic we have been confronted by those who have promised the world in order to deny the right of free peoples to vote. Two of the gravest threats to our republic came only during the past sixty years or so. The first was a triple threat orchestrated by Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan; all conniving to ensure that “We the People” were not allowed to exercise our God-given and blood-mortgaged right to choose our own style of government. Adolf Hitler and his henchmen considered America a “degenerate democracy”, no doubt to influence their own constituents who were conned into believing that national socialism would provide a better life than individual activism.

Nazi Germany presented its people with many “wonderful benefits”. They had zero unemployment, national healthcare, and unspeakable pride in a living, breathing god. What they lacked, however, was common individualism; the simple ability to be who one was without fear or disgrace. Yes, one could immerse themselves within the Glory of the Reich providing, of course, that one was six foot five, blond-haired and blue-eyed, and did whatever one was told without complaint. For those who didn’t live up to this standard, Nazi socialism simply meant subjugation, denial, and death. Nazi Germany produced a Superior Race at the expense of what God allowed to happen over the course of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of years.

The second significant threat against the United States came from Hitler’s own archenemy: the Soviet Union. It, too, had a better solution than popular vote but it still offered the same empty promises – zero unemployment, national healthcare, and the unspeakable pride in a living, breathing god – in this case, the almighty Worker. Yes, again one could immerse themselves within the Glory of the Motherland providing, of course, that one was hardworking, healthy, and did whatever one was told without complaint. For those who didn’t live up to these standards, Soviet socialism simply meant subjugation, denial, and death. Soviet Russia produced a Superior Workforce by simply denying that there was a God who allowed things to happen over the course of hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of years.

Although we the United States had ultimately defeated these two threats, we again find ourselves fighting against enemies who wish to destroy the “degenerate democracy” that is America. This latest threat is actually a twin-pronged effort to sabotage our way of life, our proud heritage, and the commonality of the individual. Both barbs of this attack – like the two beasts from the early twentieth century – we allowed to flourish primarily because “We the People” are a compassionate, trusting bunch that only sees hostile intent when it manifests itself in the death of our neighbors and fellow countrymen. Even then, we, as a collective community, remain exceptionally naïve about the prospects of people wanting us dead merely so they can reform our democracy into the “latest and greatest” plan to redefine political culture.

The first – and perhaps most dastardly – of our current threats come from within our own communities; people who have long since decided that the common bonds of America, that which we developed over two centuries, was ill-suited for their ‘standards’ and therefore the slow suffocation of our democracy began. No longer would voter preference be the rule by which legislation would be enacted. Elite individuals would now act on our behalf. Abortion – which was quite illegal for a hundred and ninety-seven years – was now determined to be protected by the Constitution of the United States of America even though no such words can be found. Gun ownership, which was incorporated within the Constitution through the addendum of the Bill of Rights, became immoral and many self-serving municipalities changed voter intent because, apparently, the voters didn’t meet their standards.

Now as we find ourselves within another election cycle, many candidates are harking back to the ageless promises of zero unemployment, national healthcare, and unspeakable pride in a living, breathing god – liberalism. During the Roosevelt presidency – arguably the most socialist if not liberal administration in U.S. history – when American voters had sixteen years in which to vote and during a period that had the best worker to retiree ratio ever, there still existed unemployed persons and national healthcare was never established. Yes, once again, the proponents of these pipedreams try to persuade people to immerse within the Glory of Thyself providing, of course, that they are Godless, immoral, and do whatever one is told without complaint. For those who don’t live up to these standards, American Liberalism simply means subjugation, denial, and death. Democratic Party Liberalism promises a Superior Ideology by simply denying those who believe in a God who allows things to happen over the course of hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of years.

The second threat against the United States comes from a ragtag group of idealists who have perverted a religion so that they may embark upon a Jihad to rid the world of all “degenerate democracies”. They, too, preach the values of zero unemployment, national healthcare, and unspeakable pride in a living, breathing Prophet who was sent forth by their god – Allah. Yet again, one could immerse themselves within the Glory of the Caliphate providing, of course, that one was a believer, hated the West, and did whatever one was told without complaint – even to the point of blowing themselves up in order to kill dozens of innocent human beings. Greater Islam promises a Superior Afterlife by simply denying that ours is also God, if not a more compassionate understanding of Him,  who allows things to happen over the course of hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of years.

I have no doubt, myself, that this so-called “degenerate democracy” will continue to prevail for I still have great confidence in the American voter.  We have a rich and colorful history of defeating egocentric dictatorships that promised a better life for their followers. We defeated George III’s best to secure our liberties. We prevented Napoleon from establishing a colony in Mexico. We defeated Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Imperial Japan, Soviet Russia, and have taken out such despots as Manuel Noriega and Saddam Hussein. There can be no doubt that we shall prevail within our current battles as well. For all of our faults, the one thing that American voters know intuitively is when their ability to vote is in jeopardy.

Perhaps, however, I simply find comfort in the fact that our nation is something of a “degenerate democracy” – a community of people who fail to match anyone’s expectations. We are a fervent Christian nation when the rest of the planet chooses to exist within a decidedly post-Christian world. Our public companies are based upon private ownership when much of the world still retains government monopolies. Our sons and daughters are quick to lay down their lives in order to protect individual freedom when most of the world will not lift a single finger to protect themselves. We conquered the air, the atom, and the moon when neither Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia could lay claim to either achievement. The strange unconformities that represent our people even managed to invent Rock and Roll, a music style fully immersed within its ability to defy convention.

Yes, there are a lot of people and groups out there trying to attack America and each one of them fully believes in our characterization as a “degenerate” society, ill-suited for their grandiose plans of selfish power. Liberal politicians try to subvert our laws through activist judges and popular misrepresentation of our very history. Islamic radicals try to destroy our very way of life through indiscriminate murder, torture, and mayhem. Still, the superiority of the American Way rests largely upon its unique status as the only nation which exists “of the people and by the people” and because of this simple act of independence, the United States of America will never degenerate into a second-class society.
